2021 is fast approaching to it’s end. It has been a very challenging year for everyone, for humanity as a whole. Yet, it has to be said that many sectors are in a weaker state than the professions linked to agriculture.
Tume should be happy with 2021. The first reason to be happy is that our staff have been responsible, and the corona has not yet hit here. Thank you for your diligence, Tumeans!
Our turnover has developed positively. We can clearly see that agriculture has also become more appreciated in export countries, and our order book is much better than a year ago. Long-term business relationships with our importers are bearing fruit.
We have also expanded our product range. Tume is entering the processing equipment market strongly. At the Koneagria exhibition in Tampere, we presented three new machines: the D-, R- and T- Harrows; disc harrows, spading disc cultivator and multipurpose cultivators.
In 2021, we invested in two new welding robots for our production. One of them will be so big that we will be able to export practically all our biggest machines to be welded by it. We have to invest in welding automatization because there is a shortage of welders in Finland. Robotization is also known to improve the consistent quality of products. They will be deployed in January 2022. The deployment will not cause any problems for Tume since the first welding robot (Hitachi-Kemppi) was purchased here back in 1983.
Jorma Lähetkangas was invited to become the CEO of Tume from the beginning of 2021. Jomppe has really got the wind up! With his own hard-working and inspiring example, he has got the team 100% behind him. I describe him as a people-oriented and down-to-earth analyst. A team player.
Finally, I would like to inform you that there is a change in the ownership of Tume-Agri Oy. PEL-tuote Oy already owns more than half of Tume, so Tume-Agri Oy is part of the PEL-tuote Oy group. I will sell the rest of my shares of Tume in the next six years and then Tume will be fully owned by PEL-tuote Oy. I came to Tume in 1987 and I’m looking to retire in 2027. That will be 40 years then, and I think that’s enough. I am very pleased that the Lappalainen brothers (PEL-tuote Oy) are carrying the baton for Tume. The men have their feet firmly on the Finnish soil, and I can be sure that machine manufacturing in Turenki will continue and develop under Finnish private ownership.
